THE SHORT ANSWER

Reconcile supported annual food-truck earnings after real service/travel costs, define permanent owner replacement and usable included vehicle/kitchen assets, then match relevant sold comparisons. BizBuySell’s national 2021–2025 sold food-truck table reports a 1.43x median owner-earnings multiple. That historical operating-business sample is separate from bare vehicle pricing, managed-platform EBITDA or a current appraisal.

Use the historical operating-business table

The primary category includes established single owner-operated trucks and multiple-unit businesses offering catering and related service.

Median1.43x

Upper quartile2.31x

Match actual menu/concept, geography, season, locations, event mix, scale, owner work, earnings definitions and included assets. Select relevant current transactions separately. A larger event calendar or additional truck does not independently establish upper-quartile pricing.

Test actual event and route costs

Trace served trading and event invoices through discounts, refunds, venue/provider fees, settlement and collection. Reconcile annual accounts, keeping accepted bookings and deposits separate from completed service. Include actual ingredients/waste, packaging, cooking/service, driving, fuel, commissary, site fees, repairs and shared costs.

Hypothetical arithmetic only: $5,000 − $1,800 − $1,300 − $700 − $250 − $350 = $600. Specified costs total $4,400. Commissary, storage, administration, repairs, equipment investment, financing, tax and other unlisted costs are excluded; not annual earnings, an industry margin or client results.
Invented served-event illustrationAssumed amount
Served sales after stated credits$5,000
Ingredients and packaging$1,800
Cooking and service labor$1,300
Event/site fee$700
Travel and fuel$250
Outside equipment hire$350
Remainder after these specified costs$600

Use real records and a consistent cost basis. A booked gross-sales figure and a successful event are separate from supported full-year profit after every necessary expense.

Define recurring work and usable assets

SEC adjusted-measure guidance is an issuer-presentation reference.

(SEC: non-GAAP financial measure interpretations)

Have the accountant define starting period/measure, actual deducted expenses and future purpose. Draws, debt principal, vehicle purchases and every kitchen/generator repair are not automatic adjustments. A driving or vehicle charge can support continuing service rather than be removable personal cost. Include necessary buying, cooking, driving, setup and booking replacement using the earnings-basis guide.

Inspect the vehicle and installed kitchen appropriately and review title, liens, leases, condition and needed investment. An operating-business price and bare asset value answer different questions. Determine what the earnings-based proposal includes before adding truck, generator, menu or goodwill again.

Resolve actual locations and closing obligations

FDA describes the Food Code as a jurisdiction model.

(FDA: Food Code model and adoption overview)

Review actual adopted requirements and proposed mobile/kitchen/location activities with specialists and responsible authorities. Read actual commissary, storage, route, parking, event and private-site terms using the consent register. A known route is separate from usable buyer access and permission.

SBA sale guidance addresses agreement assets/liabilities and valuation approaches.

Define stock/vehicle/equipment, receivables, payables, deposits, accepted events, cancellations, refunds and claims using the delivery guide. Use the seller preparation guide for records. Compare required investment, funded service and unresolved access before applying a scenario multiple; tools do not certify an appraisal or clear the truck.

Owner questions

Are the sold food-truck multiples vehicle appraisal figures?

They describe historical operating-business owner-discretionary earnings, not bare vehicle sales.

Does one successful event establish annual profit?

Review actual full-year trading and necessary costs beyond that event.

Can an event route be priced as guaranteed buyer access?

Review actual location/provider and authority conditions before relying on continuation.
