THE SHORT ANSWER

Define the actual home-care service and payer model, reconcile supported annual collections and necessary continuing staff, then choose relevant closed evidence. The public sold sample here combines medical and nonmedical home services; it does not isolate a Medicare-certified HHA. Census and scheduled hours are separate from earnings. Define actual provider/payer conditions, receivables and care duties in the proposed price.

Use mixed home-care sold data with explicit limits

BizBuySell’s home-care category combines medical and nonmedical services delivered at home.

Source: BizBuySell national 2021–2025 reported sold mixed home-care owner earnings, checked October 10, 2026. Medical/nonmedical activity combined; not an isolated Medicare-HHA, hospice or platform EBITDA range, asking price or current appraisal. Match earnings and included assets.

Obtain relevant closed agencies matching actual services, payer model, geography, scale, staff/owner roles, earnings definitions and assets. Record source/date, sold versus asking and unknown fields. Distinguish owner-operator SDE from earnings after necessary supervision/clinical/management coverage. A license, census, referral label or strategic buyer does not independently select a multiple or establish a premium.

Reconcile fulfilled services and necessary staffing

Separate actual skilled, personal-assistance, companion and other offered activity by service, payer and location. Trace completed work through time/service evidence, claims/invoices, contractual reductions, denials, refunds, settlements and receipts. Explain periods and cash/accrual timing; a scheduled visit, authorization, billed claim and receipt are distinct. Review receivable aging, subsequent receipts, disputes, recovery costs and recoupment questions appropriately.

Reconcile clinician/aide/caregiver/support payroll, travel, overtime, supervision, recruiting/training, billing, premises, software and shared overhead. Map owner duties using the coverage guide and support adjustments through the earnings bridge. Verify appropriately qualified available staff and actual recurring costs; seller training or headcount alone does not establish permanent coverage.

Hypothetical arithmetic only: 200 × $40 = $8,000; less $5,000 + $1,000 distinct costs leaves $2,000. Amount assumes completed billable hours and stated realization, not scheduled/authorized work. Other supervision, premises/shared costs, investment, financing and tax excluded. Not actual reimbursement, staffing rates, annual SDE/EBITDA, valuation or client result.
Invented completed-hour group illustrationAssumption/result
Assumed fulfilled and billable hours200 hours
Assumed realized amount per stated hour$40/hour
Assumed stated group amount$8,000
Distinct specified staff/travel costs−$5,000
Distinct specified coordination/billing costs−$1,000
Remainder after these specified group costs$2,000

Do not remove every personal/vehicle/renovation/owner-pay labeled cost or deduct payroll twice. Test actual unfilled work, overtime and collection changes using supported assumptions.

Verify actual provider and operating conditions

CMS provides basic Medicare/Medicaid HHA certification information.

(CMS: home-health agency certification overview)

Where relevant, have healthcare counsel, responsible agencies and appropriate contractors assess actual ownership, certification/enrollment, surveys/findings and operating/billing dependencies. Assess other home-care models and state/local or certificate-of-need questions separately. Do not assume a license, payer agreement or billing number transfers with a price formula.

Use the consent register for actual entity, services, locations, staff, payer/franchise/vendor and premises conditions. Review actual referral, employment, management and compensation arrangements with counsel. Identify owned assets, leases and required investment; avoid adding equipment, receivables or goodwill already included in a comparison or offer.

Define protected records and actual price obligations

Have privacy counsel assess permitted evidence, access/custody and migration. Start with approved aggregate information; an NDA alone is insufficient grounds to upload identifiable files. Future patient/client choice and services remain separate from historic census.

Define included/excluded receivables, claims/recoupment questions, payroll/provider balances, deposits, prepaid services, refunds and continuing care through the delivery guide. Assign who collects, performs and funds each. Compare closing cash, adjustments, conditional proceeds, actual staffing, operating rights and required investment. An educational calculator does not certify agency value or guarantee billing continuity.

The table describes a national 2021–2025 mixed medical/nonmedical home-care owner-earnings sample, not an isolated Medicare-HHA or hospice range.
